The team at Village Farms International have been deeply moved to see Northern Texas engulfed by a series of destructive wildfires in recent days. Much of which is home to farmers, ranchers, and agricultural businesses of many kinds.
Fueled by an uncharacteristic warm and humid February, the fires have spread devastatingly across much of the Texas panhandle. Communities have been displaced, properties destroyed, and vast numbers of cattle have sadly been lost.
Events like this demonstrate how unpredictable and severe natural disasters can be. Anyone can be unfortunate enough to be affected by them and so it is times like these that a spirit of community and positive action are never more critical.
The first responders of Texas are rising once more to the challenge and are continuing to fight the blaze. But the damage this wildfire leaves behind will represent a serious challenge to people’s livelihoods, people for whom agriculture is not just a job, but a way of life.
That’s why we at Village Farms believe there is a collective responsibility to come together and support those affected at this time.
